TN patients could be caught in CVS-Caremark vs. Walgreen dispute
From the Tennessean:
Transformative and game changing were among buzzwords used to describe the merger just over three years ago that created the hybrid drugstore chain and drug plan manager CVS Caremark Corp.
Now a dispute over reimbursement rates and policies that its chief rival, Walgreen, claims steers some patients to CVS’ own pharmacies has again brought into focus what some saw as the potential for conflicts of interest in that hybrid business model.
Caught in the crossfire are thousands of people on CVS Caremark’s drug plans, including members of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, who won’t be able to fill prescriptions at Walgreen stores beginning July 9 if the dispute between the nation’s two largest drugstore chains isn’t resolved by then.
