New Health Insurance Plans to Provide Free Preventive Care
Last week the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services announced that any new health plans beginning on or after September 23, 2010 “must cover preventive services that have strong scientific evidence of their health benefits.”
In addition, copayments, coinsurance or deductible for these services have been eliminated.
Examples of what’s covered: routine vaccinations, pediatrician visits, and vision and hearing tests for children, breast and colon cancer screenings, screenings for diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and screening for vitamin deficiencies during pregnancy.
