“In the coming weeks, people all across the country will come together for American Dream house meetings. Let’s talk about what a new American Dream looks like and commit to stand together to make it happen.” – Van Jones, Rebuild the Dream

Attend a Rebuild the American Dream House Meeting this weekend in Tennessee!

If you heard that Tennesseans from all over the state had planned 18 Rebuild the American Dream House Meetings this weekend, what would you say? That’s right, “YOWZA!”

It’s true. Tennesseans are tired of an economy that’s only working for large corporations and special interests. We’re ready to listen to each others stories of how this lopsided economy has negatively affected our lives and our families. We’re ready to say to each other – out loud – that our fair shot at improving our lives and the lives of our kids should be the NUMBER ONE policy priority of our elected officials. Not only that, but we’re ready to do something about it.

Won’t you join us?

Space is limited in some instances so sign up early. All times are local.

KINGSTON SPRINGS – 11:30 AM @ Red Tree Coffee, Kingston Springs, TN 37082
Hosted by Melissa Sandefur
Come on by for some coffee, tell your story, make a new friend, and let’s get movin’! For too long our elected officials have put large corporations and special interests ahead of what’s best for the hard-working people of Tennessee. Now we’re faced with high unemployment and fewer and fewer opportunities in which we can strive to provide for our family, give our kids a better future, and live with dignity. How has the economic downtown affected your life? Your family? Why doesn’t Tennessee’s economy work for everyone and not just a select few? When will what’s best for the people of the state become a priority for our elected officials? We don’t have the answers yet but by working together and listening to one another we can get there.

NASHVILLE – 3:00 PM CT  @ Looby Library Branch, Nashville, TN 37228

Where is the change that our movement has been promised by our leaders? In Memphis, like most places in this country, the state of our economy and its effects on jobs and housing is only getting worse. In our office we are almost constantly meeting with people that are suffering and whose situation will only get worse as state and federal cuts find their way into our low income communities. That is why we are so excited to take place in the launch of a national campaign to Rebuild the Dream for our communities. On the weekend of July 16 people in neighborhoods across the country are gathering at more than 900 American Dream house meetings to share our stories, express our hopes, hone our best ideas, and craft a plan for working together to fix our broken economy.
Please come to this important meeting so that people in Memphis have a chance to help build our movement?

Putting People Before Profits: An Open Discussion on Economic Justice. You’ve seen the headlines and the fallout in our own communities – Many of us are struggling just to get by, jobs are hard to find, and jobs that pay a living wage are even more scarce. Meanwhile, the rich just keep getting richer and corporations keep an ever-tightening fist around their soaring profits. The wealth that is concentrated at the top is not trickling down to our communities. Join us to share your perspective, learn what’s happening in your community, and plug in with others who want to work toward broader prosperity and opportunity in East Tennessee.

This is a forum to begin a discussion on how to rebuild the nation. This group’s interest is concern that the middle class is suffering, that the power and wealth are concentrated in a small group of self interested corporations who do not have the country’s best interest at heart, that there is a solution. This group may look at other countries who have systems that work, i.e., affordable health care, ability to take vacations, retirement plans, in general populations where no one has to suffer but folks can still prosper.
