Citizen Activists Express Opposition to ACA Repeal

Today in Nashville, citizen activists from Tennessee Citizen Action, Nashville Indivisible, and MoveOn joined together at the office of Sen. Lamar Alexander to express opposition to Tom Price as Secretary of HHS and to oppose repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Over 100 people attended the event, with approximately 30 allowed into the office for small group meetings with Alexander’s staff.
“We’re here today to stand up for the ACA,” said Andy Spears, Executive Director of Tennessee Citizen Action. “If the ACA is repealed, more than 500,000 Tennesseans will lose access to health insurance. That’s not acceptable.”
Spears noted that HHS nominee Price has consistently supported ACA repeal with or without a replacement plan in place.
“Tom Price is far outside the mainstream on health policy,” Spears said. “We need an HHS Secretary who will support efforts to build on the work of the ACA, not tear it down.
Senator Alexander is in a powerful position on health policy issues due to his chairmanship of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
“Senator Alexander needs to know that Tennessee families are counting on the Affordable Care Act and the access to coverage it provides,” Spears said. “We delivered letters and told our stories about the important benefits families have received thanks to the ACA. We oppose repeal and want to be sure Sen. Alexander knows where we stand.”
