Despite mounting opposition from across Tennessee, Senator Bob Corker today released a statement indicating he supports Betsy DeVos for Education Secretary.

Here’s what he had to say:

“For decades, Betsy DeVos has passionately and effectively advocated for all children – regardless of gender, race or socioeconomic status – to have access to a quality education,” Corker said in a statement released by his office.

“She believes in empowering parents and has committed to working with states and local school districts. I have known Betsy for many years and am confident that she will do a great job as secretary of education.”

A final Senate vote on DeVos’s confirmation is expected sometime next week. So far, 50 Senators have said they will vote against DeVos.

To review, DeVos has said she doesn’t support federal gun-free school zones and is not supportive of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

With one more Senator agreeing to vote no, DeVos will NOT be confirmed.

Despite his statement, now is a key time to call Senator Corker and tell him why you oppose Betsy DeVos.

You can reach his Nashville office at 615-279-8125.

Does anyone know if either Corker or Alexander got campaign donations from Betsy DeVoss?
