100 Days of Resistance

We’ve been joining with Nashville Indivisible to host Resist Trump Tuesdays every week since the inauguration. We won’t stop resisting, but tomorrow marks our final Resist Trump Tuesday.

Here’s more on this from our Indivisible friends:

Later this week, we officially mark 100 days of the Trump regime.  Although Trump and his collaborators in Congress continue to wreak havoc on any semblance of rational public policy, the amazing resistance by Indivisible and our allies over the past three months has successfully blunted his worst instincts.

Here’s yet another example of the continuing momentum of our shared resistance:  4,000 people turned out for the Nashville science march this Saturday, despite a looming torrential downpour!  Many tens of thousands more turned out for March for Science events in 600 cities across the country and around the globe.

Please help us keep up the momentum by attending these resistance events:

Demand that Senators Corker and Alexander Pass a “Clean” Continuing Resolution to Fund the Government with No Policy Riders

Not One Nickel for Trump’s Foolish Border Wall!

Tuesday, April 25, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Corner of West End Ave. & Murphy Road

In January, Nashville Indivisible and MoveOn.org announced plans to hold actions at the offices of Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker every Tuesday for the first 100 days of Trump’s administration.  We’ve met that commitment, and this Tuesday will mark the fifteenth of these “regularly scheduled” actions.

Going forward, we will continue organizing office visits and other demonstrations targeting Alexander and Corker, but these will no longer be regularly scheduled for every Tuesday.  Instead, we will plan actions at different times and places and in different formats, as events and the continuing outrages from the Trump administration unfold.

So please come out this Tuesday for the last of this series of Nashville Indivisible actions!

This week, we will demand that Alexander and Corker support a “clean” continuing resolution to fund the government, with no unnecessary “policy riders” such as funding for Trump’s foolish border wall scheme.

Unless Congress passes a continuing resolution (“CR”) by the end of this week, government funds will run out on Friday and we will see yet another wasteful government shut-down.  The key to avoiding this is for Congress to pass a clean CR – but Trump is trying to hold government funding hostage by demanding that Congress include a $1.4 billion “down payment” for his proposed wall on the Mexican border.

Congressional right-wingers have also threatened to shut down the government unless the CR supports their own extremist pet policies, such as defunding Planned Parenthood, stripping the EPA of funding for climate protection, or funding Trump’s ramped-up “deportation force.”

Our message for Alexander and Corker this week is clear:  pass a “clean” continuing resolution to fund government operations, with no controversial policy riders and not one nickel of funding for Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico.

As always, please bring appropriate signs for our rally outside and letters to deliver to the Senators’ staff inside.

Please also call Alexander and Corker – plus U.S. Representative Jim Cooper – to reinforce this message.  Phone numbers are provided below.
