Call Senators Corker and Alexander Today!

From our friends at Tennessee Justice Center:

Our members of Congress and President Trump promised to protect our health coverage, making it better and more affordable for everyone. Today, the House of Representatives betrayed us and went back on their promises when they passed the immoral American Health Care Act. Now the bill moves to the Senate.
We need your help to stop this bill in the Senate. If it passes in the Senate, the magnitude of Congress’ betrayal will be hard to overstate.
  • The 578,000 Tennesseans who are expected to become uninsured under the AHCA will be betrayed.
  • Tennessee’s children, seniors, and people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid will be betrayed by the AHCA’s gutting of the Medicaid program.
  • The 1.2 million Tennesseans who have pre-existing conditions will be betrayed by the AHCA’s dismantling of the protections for people with pre-existing conditions. The AHCA will take people with the “pre-existing conditions” of asthma, obesity, allergies, ear infections, and even rape back to the dark ages in which they couldn’t get health insurance.
  • The millions of Tennesseans who will see huge increase in their premiums, including both Tennesseans on the Marketplace and on employer-sponsored insurance, will be betrayed if the AHCA passes in the Senate.
  • The millions of privately insured Americans who will again face lifetime and annual caps will be betrayed.
We aren’t the only ones who are opposed to the AHCA and aren’t the only ones speaking out against the harm that it inflicts. The AHCA has been opposed by:
  • Health providers like the American Nurses Association and American Medical Association.
  • Hospitals including the American Hospital Association.
  • Patient advocacy group like the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association
  • Hundreds of consumer advocacy organizations like the AARP.
  • Non-health groups like the National Education Association.
Today’s vote is a shameful display of partisan politics at its worst as our Representatives care more about political games than the health and welfare of the American people.
What can you do?
First, call Tennessee’s Senators.
Senator Alexander: (615) 736-5129
Senator Corker: (615) 279-8125
The real fight will be in the Senate. We haven’t given up – our Senators are in a key position to save our health care safety net. Make sure that they hear your voice and know that they’re betraying Tennessee’s values if they pass this bill.
