23 Million Lose Coverage, $600 Billion in Tax Cuts for the Wealthy

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office is out with their score of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The CBO makes it clear: The AHCA will cause millions of Americans to lose coverage while transferring billions of dollars to the wealthy and insurance companies. It’s devastating. It’s reverse Robin Hood. It’s wrong.

Our friends at Health Care for American Now have this to say:

“The Republican repeal bill is breathtaking in the damage it will cause America’s families and the chaos it will bring to our health care system. The analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) puts a clear decision squarely before the Senate: Will the Senate wreck America’s health care to pay for tax cuts for the rich, or will it build on the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and Medicare so everyone in America has quality health care they can afford?

“If it wasn’t obvious to everyone before, it’s now crystal clear that the Senate cannot fix this bill by moving around the pieces and making modest changes. It’s fatally flawed. It’s designed to pay for tax cuts for the rich by taking away people’s health care. You can’t tweak that.

“It’s time to stop this madness and end the partisan, political health care war. As the CBO score shows, the Republican repeal bill wrecks the health care of millions of Americans to give huge tax cuts to the very wealthy and drug and insurance corporations. That’s the wrong formula for Americans’ health. Instead, the Republicans in the House and Senate should work to guarantee quality, affordable health care for everyone.”
