“Skinny Repeal”

What is all this talk of “Skinny Repeal?”

It’s bad news, plain and simple. Our friends at People’s Action explain a bit — and offer ideas on what YOU can do to make a difference.

The news reports on the health care repeal are coming fast. But there’s only one story: GOP leaders want to take away our health care. We’ve stopped them before. Let’s keep stopping them.

Republican leaders want to pass a bill by Friday. The press is already calling this a “compromise” bill or “skinny” version of repeal.

Don’t buy it.

This bill is a Trojan horse to set up a closed-door committee of House and Senate Republicans who will write yet another repeal bill during the August recess. We already know what the bill will do: Cut protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Raise deductibles and premiums. Slash and cap Medicaid.

This bill is opposed by just about everyone – patient groups, doctors and hospitals, and people like you and me. Senators must oppose it, too. They must vote no on the Trojan horse bill and any bill taking away our health care.

Here are two things you can do today to protect our health care:

Keep calling your senators at (202) 224-3121. Tell them to vote NO on Republican health repeal legislation. Remind them how unpopular their health care repeal is – and tell them that you will never forgive a vote to take away our health care and gut Medicaid.

Sign up to attend or host a rally near you on Saturday. Find an “Our Lives Are On the Line” rally here. The more of us who flood the streets the better. Even if the Senate votes against us on Friday, our fight isn’t done.

We’re raising the heat on the politicians throughout the summer – any new bill would have to come back to both the House and the Senate in September. It’s clear they don’t know what they’re up against.

Remember: You’re making a huge difference. You’ve fought harder and tougher than anyone expected. Every day, you’ve saved lives. Let’s keep fighting and winning.

Skinny Repeal is about as “skinny” as a Maple Bacon Donut — don’t buy it, don’t let Corker and Alexander sell it to Tennessee!
