Statement on TrumpCare Vote

Tennesseans and all Americans won a major victory early this morning as the final version of TrumpCare was defeated by a vote of 51-49. This means we can preserve the healthcare gains of the past seven years and begin moving forward — expanding access to coverage and getting a handle on cost.

The TrumpCare legislation failed in spite of the support given to it by our own Senators — Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. Both voted in favor of a bill that would have taken healthcare from 16 million Americans and dramatically increased premiums for Tennessee families.

This is unacceptable. Over the past six months, Tennesseans all across the state have visited Senate offices, made phone calls, sent emails, and written letters to share their healthcare stories. In spite of this outpouring of opposition, Alexander and Corker voted the way they were told by Mitch McConnell.

It’s time for our two Senators to hear OUR voices. It’s time for them to realize Mitch McConnell doesn’t represent Tennessee. It’s time for Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker to reach across the aisle and work toward a bipartisan solution to improve the Affordable Care Act.
