About Dr. Carol Paris:

Dr. Paris is a psychiatrist and president of Physicians for a National Health Program.  She retired from clinical practice in 2014, having worked in private practice, community mental health, prison psychiatry, and academia.  In the course of her experience she became an outspoken critic of the private-insurance based U.S. health care system.

In May 2009, Dr. Paris and seven others stood up at a Senate Finance Committee hearing on health care reform to ask why there wasn’t a single advocate for single-payer health care on the 41-member panel.  In an action that received national media attention, Chairman Max Baucus had all eight peaceful protesters, including Dr. Paris, arrested. (Charges were eventually reduced).  In 2013, Dr. Paris worked as a consultant psychiatrist in New Zealand, where she experienced their national health system firsthand.

In March 2017, Dr. Paris confronted President Donald Trump at a public rally in Nashville, chanting “put your name on a plan that works, Medicare for All.”  She has spoken at grand rounds, rallies, town halls and single payer workshops around the country and frequently appears on radio shows.  She will embark on a 3-city speaking tour in Alaska next month.
