Trump Turns His Back on Consumers

Donald Trump today signed legislation supported by Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker that will allow big banks like Wells Fargo and companies like Equifax to avoid accountability when they defraud or harm consumers.

Here’s a statement on the issue from our friends at Consumer Federation of America:

Today, President Trump stood shoulder to shoulder with big banks and turned his back on all of us. With a stroke of a pen, the President stripped away the choice, from millions of consumers, to decide on their own how they’ll hold companies accountable when they have been wronged.

The result will be unchecked wrongdoing, with bad actors pick-pocketing everyday consumers without accountability.

When consumers can join together they put powerful interests on notice that they will be held accountable for their actions. When consumers are forced to stand alone, the powerful are able to do them wrong without accountability.

The Consumer Federation of America is an association of more than 250 non-profit consumer groups that, since 1968, has sought to advance the consumer interest through research, education, and advocacy.
