Tax Scam Threatens Health Care

The House is expected to pass it’s version of “tax reform” today and the Senate could move after Thanksgiving.

Not only does this legislation add to the deficit and raise taxes on middle class families, it also threatens Medicare and Medicaid.

Our friends at Tennessee Justice Center have more:

Here we go again… Congressional leaders in both the House and the Senate are working around the clock to pass a tax bill at the expense of health care for millions by repealing the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate and cutting programs like Medicare and Medicaid. We anticipate that the House will bring their bill to the floor for a vote within the next 48 hours, with the Senate soon to follow. The Senate hopes to have tax reform wrapped in a bow and on the President’s desk by Christmas.
The Senate tax reform bill includes the same framework as the House version, but with subtle differences. However, BOTH BILLS:
Unlike the House, the Senate combined their sneaky attempts to undo the ACA with their tax cuts for the rich at the expense of working Americans, driving up taxes and premiums for the middle class, and causing millions to lose their health coverage.
As the House will most likely pass their version of the tax reform bill TODAY, our most important goal is to slow the process down byreaching out to our Senators. Senator Corker has continuously spoken out against adding to the national deficit and against tax cuts for the wealthy, which is why he needs to hear from you now more than ever. Thanksgiving week is critical in fighting against an unfair tax reform bill and ensuring that coverage is protected for millions of Americans.
Please take two minutes to call Senators Alexander and Corker!
Tell them:
  • Don’t use the tax bill to add to the federal deficit.
  • Don’t use the tax bill to take health coverage away from Tennesseans.
  • Don’t use the tax bill to shift wealth from ordinary Americans to the wealthiest people in our country.
