House Passes RAISE the WAGE!

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Raise the Wage Act — raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025. Co-sponsoring and voting FOR the bill were Congressmen Jim Cooper of Nashville and Steve Cohen of Memphis.

Next, the bill moves to the Senate, where Tennessee Senators Lamar Alexander and Marsha Blackburn will have a chance to show their support for Tennessee’s working families.

“The Raise the Wage Act is an important step forward for workers in Tennessee and across our country,” said Andy Spears, executive director of Tennessee Citizen Action. “Tennessee has more workers (per capita) working at the minimum wage than any other state. Workers in Tennessee deserve a fair wage for a day’s work. Today, we’re calling on Senators Alexander and Blackburn to move swiftly in supporting this bill and giving Tennessee families a raise.”
