Tennessee Citizen Action is your progressive consumer watchdog organization. Not too long ago, The Memphis Commercial Appeal noted that Citizen Action was the only voice specifically working on behalf of consumers in Nashville.
That’s what we’re all about. Tennessee Citizen Action exists to help make sure that Tennesseans who are not empowered by wealth, or position or some kind of personal influence have a chance when they deal with companies or governments or professionals or individuals who might have all three.
We believe that the people in this state have a right to be protected against predatory vultures who would entice them into so-called home loans – loans whose fine print may well result in drained bank accounts, bankruptcy and the loss of a lifetime of hard work.
We believe that people are entitled to at least have the opportunity to purchase adequate and effective health insurance.
And when Tennesseans are sick and hurting and afraid, we believe they have a right to quality health care from qualified and attentive care givers – and when they don’t get that kind of health care, and when something goes wrong, those responsible should be held accountable.
We believe that the people who work in this state and nation, the people who make the economic system work, the people who produce the profits, need and deserve and are entitled to a livable wage
And they also should be working in a safe environment, working with the security of knowing that if they are hurt on the job, there is a real, adequate, just system of providing for them through workers’ compensation.
We believe in protecting those who need protection, but don’t always have the resources to get that protection:
• our immigrant population who face economic exploitation.
• tenants who face inattentive or dishonest landlords.
• retirees who fear the privatization of their Social Security.
Tennessee Citizen Action is committed to consumer protection, to economic justice, and to a progressive approach to real and substantive achievements in this state.
